MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, CANADA, February 11, 2004 -- Astris Energi Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board - ASRNF), the worldÇs leading alkaline fuel cell (AFC) technology company, today reported that its 2.4 kW model E8 fuel cell power generator was the star attraction among leading edge technologies at the international INFOTHERMA exhibition held in Frylant, Czech Republic, January 19-22, 2004.
The exhibition and conference featured a four day program of lectures and seminars, focusing on energy management and savings, with emphasis on utilization of renewable / sustainable energy sources in an economical and ecological manner. This was the 11th annual INFOTHERMA exhibition, which is the largest event of its kind in Eastern Europe. There were 253 exhibitors from the countries of European Union and Czech and Slovak Republics. The exhibits were viewed by more than 25,000 visitors.
AstrisÇ display was the exhibitionÇs first ever of a hydrogen fuel cell demonstrated as an efficient and ecological system that could be used for cogeneration (simultaneous generation of electricity and heat) in small and medium-size buildings. AstrisÇ display spread over some 230 sq.ft. was prominently located near the main entrance to the exhibit hall. Excellent reviews were expressed by visitors and many enquiries about Astris alkaline fuel cell technology were received from interested parties.
One of the principal scientists of Astris s.r.o. in the Czech Republic, Dipl.Ing. Vladimir Civin presented a paper ÑFuel Cells for Lighting and Heating in Family Dwellings and other Small and Medium Buildingsâ. The model E8 AFC generator shown at the exhibition alongside other Astris fuel cell products can provide 2.4 kW electrical power, with a significant overload factor, and a similar amount of useful heat. The generator has been extensively tested since November 2003 and the results obtained so far significantly exceeded the design parameters.
Models E7 and E8 generators also shown at the exhibition were the first in the series of Astris AFC systems utilizing the third generation Astris POWERSTACKTM MC250 technology.
The INFOTHERMA exhibition and conference was officially sanctioned by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Czech Republic, Ministry of Environment, Czech Energy Agency, The State Fund for Environment of Czech Republic, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Regional Expansion of Czech Republic. The conference attracted local and foreign participants as well as dignitaries, including the Minister of Environment of Czech Republic, Mr. Libor Ambrozek.
