MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, CANADA, March 9, 2004 -- Astris Energi Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board - ASRNF), the world's leading alkaline fuel cell (AFC) technology company, announced today the appointment of Claude L. Rivoire, an internationally recognized fuel cell specialist, to lead the development of the Company's semi-automatic pilot production facility for its POWERSTACKô MC250. As a technical and management advisor to Astris Energi, Mr. Rivoire will work closely with the Astris team at the Company's European facility in Vlasim, Czech Republic, acquired in 2003.
Mr.Rivoire is a recognized expert in the fuel cell industry. He holds a professional engineering degree, IngÈnieur AM from l'Ecole Nationale SupÈrieure des Arts et MÈtiers and a business degree, MBA from HEC de l'Institut SupÈrieur des Affairs. He has an outstanding track record in industrial automation, production technology and plant management, spanning the transportation industry (buses and industrial vehicles), the food and high-tech rubber industries and, since 1997, the fuel cell industry. To each industry he has applied his ability to analyze, dissect, modify and streamline the production processes, thus achieving high yields, high quality, increased output and high productivity. The result has been lower production costs, improved competitive position and higher profits.
The initial review and update of earlier pilot production blueprints is in progress and scheduled for completion by the end of March 2004. The construction phase, following the updating of the blueprints and schedules, will follow. Mr. Rivoire will work closely with Radek Kotoucek, also a professional engineer, who is general manager of Astris s.r.o. in Czech Republic.
