Astris Energi Unveils New Web Site
MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, CANADA, February 26, 2004 -- Astris Energi Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board - ASRNF), the world's leading alkaline fuel cell (AFC) technology company, today launched its new Web site. The site provides background and updates on the Company, alkaline fuel cells and their future applications, and the fuel cell industry with links to leading industry Web sites.
The URL for the new Web site is http://www.astris.ca or www.astrisfuelcell.com. Astris is the only publicly traded company in North America focused exclusively on the alkaline fuel cell.
“Astris' mission is to become the leading provider of affordable fuel cells and fuel cell power generators,” said Jiri Nor, President and CEO. “Astris has developed an AFC that has lower material costs and higher efficiency than the currently popular proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), in addition to the ability to start-up quickly, even in sub-zero temperatures.
“Astris' E8 2.4 kW alkaline fuel cell power generator using the POWERSTACK™ MC250 fuel cell module launched in December 2003 exceeded an overall energy efficiency of 50% at full rated power in bench tests. This level of efficiency outperforms other fuel cell systems and the internal combustion engine by a significant margin.”
Astris' major technology breakthrough has been its use of inexpensive material for fuel cell construction and elimination of expensive platinum which is heavily relied on by the competing PEMFCs as well as AFCs made by others. Astris' direct material costs for its alkaline fuel cell now stands at less than US $230 per kW, the lowest in the fuel cell industry.
