Purple(TM) Announces Technology Milestones and Plans for Rollout of New Products and Services

Innovations Focused on Delivering Greater Customer Satisfaction and Operational Improvements

NOVATO, Calif., April 22, 2009 -- Purple Communications(TM), Inc. ("Purple" or "the Company") (PRPL) , one of the nation's leading providers of text relay, video relay and on-site interpreting services, today announced technology development milestones and product plans.

"In the last year and the first quarter of 2009, we have invested in technology designed to enhance the quality, choices, and ease of use of our products and services," said Dan Luis, CEO of Purple Communications. "This quarter, we will make a series of announcements regarding new products and services--the direct result of our efforts."

The Company's technology investments and development efforts span several areas; each aimed at enhancing service quality and customer experience. These include:

New Video Platform. After the merger of five companies in 2008, which created the Company, Purple delivered video relay and video remote interpreting services through six separate video platforms. In addition to operational inefficiencies, these platforms varied in video quality and customer satisfaction. Purple will complete its migration to a new single video platform for all forms of video relay and video remote interpreting services this quarter. In addition to delivering improved operational efficiency, this migration is expected to deliver enhanced video quality and enable the Company to better customize communication options for its customers and for its partners who deliver their own branded services via the Company's platform.

Redesigned Communications Infrastructure. The Company has completely re-engineered the telecommunications infrastructure connecting its nationwide network of more than 25 communications centers. This technology enhancement will positively impact picture clarity for video customers and improve network reliability and uptime for all of the Company's services.

New Access Methods to the Service. In addition to investing in its video platform and telecommunication infrastructure, the Company has been developing new ways to enable greater access to its services. These include:

-- Local 10-Digit Numbers for IP-based relay services - The Company has
diligently worked with other industry participants to ensure equal
access to communication for deaf or hard-of-hearing persons. This work
resulted in Purple being the first in the industry to process a call
across providers using a real 10-digit telephone number. Not only does
access to 10 digit numbers provide customers greater functional
equivalency, it also increases public safety by enabling enhanced 911
        access from IP-based relay services.
-- Portable and Mobile Solutions - Addressing the deaf and hard-of-hearing
community's need for broader and more flexible communication
options, Purple will soon unveil a range of portable and mobile
communications options, each reflecting the Company's innovative
history and strong background in mobile communications solutions.
-- Software Enabled Communication Solutions - The Company will also be
unveiling new software this quarter designed to broaden customer choices
on how and when they communicate from their personal computer. This new
software combines for the first time video relay, text relay,
point-to-point calling and other communications options in a single
        application.
-- Common Video Mail Messaging Platform - Purple's new, common
messaging platform will provide customers access to video mail messages
from any Purple-enabled device, including computers and wireless devices
        such as the Blackberry.

"These efforts have been made to provide our customers with an improved connection to Purple and its services," added Luis. "We expect the combination of infrastructure improvements, innovative new ways to access our services, and new convenience features will delight our customers and set us apart from other providers."
