WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. - Feb. 20, 2009 - Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Navigation Systems Division opened its doors yesterday as part of National Engineers Week (E-Week) to encourage students by showing them how engineering contributes to the nation's defense. E-Week, established in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, is designed to raise public understanding and appreciation of engineers' contributions to society. A photo accompanying this release is available at http://media.primezone.com/noc. High school and college students from Monroe High School in North Hills, Robert Fulton College Preparatory School in Van Nuys, Canoga Park High School, and the California State University, Northridge chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, took a workshop about products built by the division and toured the company's Woodland Hills plant to see how defense products are built. Teaming with engineers to solve challenges, the students used their engineering skills and devised ways to drop an egg without breaking it and move a ball through a gigantic maze. E-Week is celebrated in the United States in February of each year. During E-Week, Northrop Grumman employees across the country volunteer to speak and interact with students in an effort to reach out to local communities and highlight the importance of engineering. "E-week fosters student interest in the STEM fields -- science, technology, engineering and math. Northrop Grumman is proud to provide students in this community with a chance to interact with engineers and see engineering skills put to work," said Paul Russell, vice president of Engineering, Logistics and Operations for Northrop Grumman's Navigation Systems Division. Northrop Grumman's Navigation Systems Division supplies navigation- and tactical-grade inertial systems and sensors, integrated avionics computers and systems, mobile integrated ground and air defense command and control systems, fiber-optic acoustic sensors, identification friend-or-foe systems, and logistics support services for international and domestic defense and commercial markets. Northrop Grumman Corporation is a leading global security company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in aerospace, electronics, information systems, shipbuilding and technical services to government and commercial customers worldwide.
