Northrop Grumman Receives 19th Nunn-Perry Award From Department of Defense for Mentor-Protege Program

RESTON, Va., March 17, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) recently received its 19th U.S. Department of Defense Nunn-Perry Award for its work mentoring Client/Server Software Solutions Inc. (CSSS.NET) in geographic information systems technologies through the Defense Department's Mentor-Protege Program.

Headquartered in Bellevue, Neb., CSSS.NET is a Small Business Administration certified small disadvantaged business, woman owned business and service disabled veteran owned small business firm. The company was founded in 1997 and offers information technology solutions and consulting services.

Under the Mentor-Protege agreement sponsored by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Northrop Grumman provided industry-leading training covering a broad range of geographic information systems skill sets and on-the-job training, increasing CSSS.NET's technical competency. As a result of this training, CSSS.NET was able to develop novel solutions at the forefront of geographic information systems technologies, which are included in Defense Department production systems worldwide.

"Northrop Grumman is honored to be recognized once again as a leader in supporting small businesses through the Mentor-Protege program. The transfer of critical, high-demand technology and expertise will provide CSSS.NET a powerful advantage by reinforcing core skills with product development and, at the same time, provides the Defense Department a valuable future leader and innovator in geographic information system technologies," said Ray Kolibaba, vice president of the System Development Operations unit within Northrop Grumman Information Systems sector.

The Nunn-Perry Award, named in recognition of former Senator Sam Nunn and former Secretary of Defense William Perry, was first awarded in 1995 to recognize outstanding Mentor-Protege teams that have excelled in the areas of technical assistance, return on investment and protege company development. The program was created to help small disadvantaged businesses compete for and win Pentagon and other federal contracts by establishing long-term relationships with large defense contractors.

Northrop Grumman has assisted more than 90 businesses under the Mentor-Protege program and currently has 24 active mentor-protege agreements.

Northrop Grumman Corporation is a leading global security company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in aerospace, electronics, information systems, shipbuilding and technical services to government and commercial customers worldwide.
