Northrop Grumman Upgrades Vessel Traffic System for Plymouth Harbor and Devonport Royal Naval Dockyard

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - July 15, 2005 - Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has completed a major upgrade of the Vessel Traffic System for Plymouth Harbor and the Royal Naval Dockyard at Devonport, U.K., that will enhance the ability of traffic controllers to observe and manage the movement of ships throughout the harbor and control access of unauthorized traffic into the restricted zones of the naval station.

The work was performed by Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit under contract from the Queen’s Harbour Master, Royal Naval Dockyard, Devonport.

Sperry Marine constructed two new radar towers, expanding the original Vessel Traffic System from two radar sites to four; and established microwave links from the sites to the two separate parallel control centers for the harbor and naval station. The radars were integrated with existing electro-optical night-vision systems, and operator software was upgraded at both control stations.

Sperry Marine completed a similar upgrade for the Vessel Traffic System at the Milford Haven oil and gas terminal, in Wales, U.K., last year.

Sperry Marine, with worldwide headquarters in Charlottesville, Va., and major engineering and support offices in Melville, N.Y., New Malden, U.K., and Hamburg, Germany, is part of Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector.
