MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 30, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Gerald Buckwalter was appointed to the advisory board for the University of Maryland University College Graduate School of Management and Technology. In this role, he will advise the Information Technology Systems department as it shapes the university's most recent degree concentration in homeland security.

Buckwalter is director of homeland security for Northrop Grumman. He also serves as chair of the company's homeland security executive council.
The university's advisory board is comprised of executives from leading public and private sector organizations. The Information Technology Systems department has 3,000 students enrolled in nine technology degree programs including information technology, computer systems management, telecommunications management and software engineering.
In his role, Buckwalter will advise the department on program and course offerings that will help curriculum requirements meet high academic standards and prepare students to excel in the workforce.
Buckwalter brings extensive advisory experience to the university's board. He was an advisor to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security/Secret Service Inaugural Security Team for the 2004 inauguration. He served on the 2004 Binational U.S.-Italy National Security Strategy and Policy committee. He was also a participant in the group of government and industry members selected for the 2002 government study on the role of the National Guard Bureau in homeland security.
